In 2011 Isuzu and GM made several significant changes to the Duramax engines for increased durability and stricter emission standards. Included in these LML engine changes were upgrades to the fuel system for compatibility to B20 fuel, and also the use of urea. The CP4 injection pump and 29,000 psi piezo injectors were also introduced in these changes. The CP4 injection pump creates higher pressures with less volume than its CP3 predecessor pump. Although this makes it a more efficient pump, the lack of fuel volume creates a lack of lubrication since these pumps rely on the diesel fuel to act as a lubricant. In addition to the higher pressure and lower fuel volume, the removal of sulfur from modern diesel fuel (Diesel #2 or Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel) also destroys compounds that exist in the fuel naturally that would normally contribute to increased lubricity. It has been determined over the last few years that these CP4 injection pumps benefit greatly from better filtration, a pump to assist getting fuel to them and a fuel additive with good lubricity added to every tank of fuel.
A very common upgrade done to these LML engines is swapping back to an earlier CP3 pump which requires special tuning to the trucks PCM, and can easily run you upwards of $3,000 dollars. Another much cheaper alternative is to give the CP4 as clean of fuel as possible, use a pump to help take tremendous workload off of it and to just simply run a good additive to help lubricate it. If the CP4 injection pump does fail, not only do you have to replace it but also every other component in the fuel system which can run up to $10-12,000 in repair bills. We have developed a kit to help avoid this catastrophic failure.

Our Duramax Dual-Filter Kit is for both better fuel and water filtration and is an inside-the-frame mounted nice and tight up under the cab. This kit requires NO drilling or welding. You simply bolt this on to the unused fuel cooler bracket using existing factory holes, connect the 1/2" hoses to your stock fuel line using the supplied fittings and provide simple 12 volt power to the pump. The kit includes the pump, filter bases, mounting bracket, Fleetguard FS1212 water separator, FF5814 Fleetguard fuel filter, hoses, fittings, mounting hardware, mini tube-cutter and full-color detailed instructions. The installation is very straight-forward and takes approximately 60-90 minutes to complete. The bracket is laser cut 3/16" steel and comes in a black, double powder-coated finish.
Our Duramax Single-Filter Kit is an inside-the-frame mounted nice and tight up under the cab. This kit requires NO drilling or welding. This kit is mainly for guys that have already installed an aftermarket secondary fuel filter where the stock filter goes and just want the pump and water separation. Remember, the CAT filter you installed does NOT separate water! The kit includes the pump, filter base, mounting bracket, Fleetguard FS1212 water separator, hoses, fittings, mounting hardware, mini tube-cutter and full-color detailed instructions. The installation is very straight-forward and takes approximately 60-90 minutes to complete. The bracket is laser cut 3/16" steel and comes in a black, double powder-coated finish.
We designed this anodized pump head to our specifications to fit an already very popular motor/impeller that was out there on the market. These pumps are not cheap to produce, but do exactly what we need them to do by simply pulling/pushing the fuel through the filters and parking it right at the mouth of the CP4 injection pump waiting for use with positive line pressure instead of a vacuum pull from the tank. This is very important on the Duramax because not only does the CP4 have to provide the high pressure to the fuel rail, it also has to do the job of sucking fuel from 15 feet away where other manufactures push the fuel from inside the fuel tank up to the injector pump which is a much better design. This overworking the CP4 produces unneeded wear over time and allows harmful air bubbles into the fuel system from cavitation. The pump is a centrifugal design and is super quiet (less than 40db) because of the magnetically-driven based polyphenylene oxide impeller that sits on a ceramic ball bearing inside. It offers many benefits over other pump styles out there because the magnetic motor eliminates impeller slippage, it does not have a shaft, which means it has no moving internal parts to wear out and is a brushless design. This combination makes the pump a total flow-through design if it would ever fail, but also gives it a life expectancy of 50,000 hours use on a 12 volt system.
The filters for both kits are very affordable ($12-17) and are readily available locally or online. No filters you have to buy from the place you bought the kit.
We do also offer the Fleetguard FS1212 water-separator filter in our Single Filter Kit below if you already have a aftermarket secondary fuel filter installed in the stock location.
A Common Rail injection system is very sensitive to any contaminants, which is why better fuel filtration is so important in promoting long, healthy injector and fuel system life. The current refined diesel fuel, is not clean enough for these high-pressure injection systems. Along with our kits, we recommend that you leave the stock fuel filter installed. We also recommend the use of a good, high-quality diesel fuel additive with each fill-up to further protect your complete fuel system and give it the proper lubrication. We recommend either Stanadyne or Power Service.
Checking for fitment on your truck
This kit mounts on the unused fuel cooler bracket on the LML trucks. Because the CP4 pushes much less fuel and doesn't return hardly any to the tank, they were able to completely remove the fuel cooler that previously sat in front of the fuel tank. Fortunately, they left the mounting bracket on the truck frame so we are able to utilize it for aftermarket coolers and the mounting of this kit. Before purchasing, please look underneath your truck on the drivers side just forward of the fuel tank and make sure the bracket in the picture below does not have anything mounted to it. If it does, you will not be able to use this kit as our mounting bracket mounts to this OEM bracket.
11-16 Duramax Dual-Filter Kit
Our LML Duramax Filter Kits install on the unused fuel cooler bracket and use existing holes for a nice clean mount inside the frame. It is a simple install of around 60-90 minutes.
This kit provides the highest level of protection possible for the Duramax engine.

The kit mounts at the back of the rear door, inside the frame underneath on the unused fuel cooler bracket. 11-16 Duramax Single-Filter Kit
The Single-Filter Kit is the same as the Dual-Filter Kit above except only contains the Fleetguard FS1212 water separator. It's for you guys that are already running a better aftermarket filter in your stock location and need water separation and a pump to relieve stress off of the CP4. Remember, if you are currently running just a CAT filter alone, you are not getting ANY protection from water in your fuel system. This is a very important part of a reliable fuel system, and no headaches down the road.
